We'll provide the very best training start for your new puppy or dog!
Five steps to shape your *Picture Perfect* Pet:
1. For young puppies--socialization & dog training:
NEW in January 2014
Puppy Day School! This drop-off dog training service is more than doggy daycare. It's all about socialization and training for young puppies - 8 to 23 weeks of age. Puppies learn basics including Touch, Come, Sit and Freeze and get socialization to both humans and other dogs in a safe, sanitary, controlled environment with qualified dog training instructors. This program incorporates elements of both our Pass the Puppy Party and our Puppy Play Skills lessons.
Pass the Puppy Party - teaches puppy to be gentle with teeth (bite inhibition), trust all kinds of humans doing/wearing all kinds of stuff (socialization to humans) and enjoy handling and grooming by friendly strangers (desensitization to grooming/handling).
Puppy Play Skills –allows puppy a chance to practice canine social skills in a safe, controlled environment. Also teaches dog owners how to read canine body language so that they can effectively monitor the conversations between dogs, and better understand when to play referee. Why start so young? The window of easy socialization for puppies closes around the age of 12 weeks! That gives most families less than a month to make the most of this critical developmental period. Good work during this phase of a puppy’s life is the best way to prevent anxiety and aggression in adolescent and adult dogs – and prevention is so much easier and economical than behavior modification for these issues. Worried about vaccinations? Please refer to the AVSAB (American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior) Position Statement on Puppy Socialization at the following web address to see the guidelines. 2. Puppy Perfect or Doggy Do-Right 6-week group dog training courses for an intro to basic safety cues & manners all dogs living amongst humans need to know.
3. Private Dog Training as needed for behavioral problem solving for issues like aggression towards people or dogs, barking, biting, chewing, digging, playing too roughly with children, general house training and so on. Some students also opt for private training if their schedule is too hectic to make a group course work, or if they feel they could benefit from additional coaching in real-world settings. Not all our instructors handle all cases or service all locations. For instance, while owner and head trainer, Bette Yip, specializes in teaching students to rehabilitate dogs that are reactive towards triggers, i.e., other dogs, new or unusual people, fast moving objects & sudden environmental changes, another instructor may only take on behavioral problem solving for housetraining, barking and destructive chewing. Feel free to contact us to see which of our instructors would be the best fit for your goals and location.
4. Continuing Canine Ed:

Even before your new puppy or adopted dog joins your home, it’s a great time to reflect upon the influence early dog training can have in shaping a relationship that’s safe, loving and peaceful for both human family members and pets. Don't wait until your new puppy or adopted dog develops bad habits to break! Start your training right away! Preventative training is much easier. Still, it's never too late to learn, so if you need help with behavioral problem solving, we offer that, too.
Picture Perfect Pets specializes in tailoring your perfect mix of private dog training lessons in home or on location and group dog training courses to help your pet learn the skills needed to fit seamlessly into your chosen lifestyle, whether you're an active person who loves to hike and jog, a "couch potato" who loves to snuggle and relax or a family needing help creating harmony in a household with both kids and dogs.
Visit the dog training tab of this site to learn why Picture Perfect Pets has become one of the Boston area's favorite positive reinforcement and "clicker" based dog training programs. Feel free to explore our treasure trove of helpful dog training tips and training triumphs in that section, too.
Please note: Although use of a clicker in the beginning of your dog training program is highly recommended, an appropriate verbal reward marker may be used instead--just ask us for details. We do NOT use prong or choke collars in classes. If you need help choosing a dog-friendly pull-management tool, please ask.
Whether you have a new puppy, or an adolescent or adult dog that needs a review of (or introduction to) the basics, we have small group dog training classes (maximum 6 dogs) and private dog training options to help you reach your goals.
